java soap
What is the future of webservices in java?

Which one to prefer
1. SOAP based
2. RESTful

I’m hardly an expert on the topic, but your question strikes me a little like asking: which do you prefer a nail or a screw. After all, they are both fasteners, but they serve different purposes.

SOAP’s strength is for invoking behavior, while REST excels at managing information. Sure you can use REST in a SOAPish way, but that doesn’t mean it is a replacement.

For example, SOAP is perfect for making requests that span multiple partners having multiple processing models with unpredictable transactional lifetimes.

REST is perfect for accessing or maintaining any serializable object.

They are both web service technologies, but based on my knowledge I think they both are optimal for solving different problems.
