I live in Belize and have started making soap. I do not think I will be able to find essential oils here. But, I have a back yard full of limes, basil, coconut, etc. Can’t I use some/all of these to scent my soap?
You might be able to make extracts from the limes or basil, but what you really need for soap is an oil-soluble extract, like an essential oil. Making that will require the use of solvents that could be dangerous or flammable. I wouldn’t recommend it.
The other option would be to just stir some lime zest or shredded fresh basil into your soap. I think that would work OK.

Since castile soap is made of olive oil, does it even clean the hair properly?
I’m thinking of making my own shampoo using castile soap but I’m concerned about the fact that its made of olive oil and may cause oily hair and build up. Does it actually clean the hair or is a commercial shampoo a better option?
don’t people sometimes put olive oil on their hair to make it softer? I would say that you should be fine as long as you don’t use it every day, just sometimes to get softer hair.
